18 years
ago, Simone’s 6-month-old daughter was abducted and never found. When a young
woman, Grace, now approaches her and tells he she believes that she is her
daughter, Simone is caught between disbelieve, fear and happiness. After only a
couple of hours together and a strange story Grace tells her about how she
found out, Simone’s life is turned upside down and she finds herself in the
middle of a search not only for the truth about what happened almost two
decades ago, but also in a murderous connection with opponents who are much
stronger and reckless than she can imagine.
The story
about a child being abducted and then so much time later clues to what could
really have happened already is a gripping plot from an emotional point of
view. However, what Kathryn Croft makes of it is much more than just this. She
extends her story more and more, building a net of side plots which are even
more interesting and thrilling and combines them all in an astonishing way to
solve the case in a most unexpected way. Focusing on protagonist and accompanying
Simone in her search gives the reader the opportunity to go through different
mental states from happiness to the highest fear, anger and compassion. All in all,
a psychological thriller which can keep its promises with a lot of suspense and
many twists and turns which constantly provide new developments.
